Hi, I am Lara Sauvageau.
I am a published photographer living in Virginia Beach, VA. I am a native North Dakotan but, I have lived here 21 years and consider it my home now. Photography became more than a hobby to me around 1997 when I began developing my own film in a dark room... yes... I said FILM! The hours would pass as I was mesmerized by how the images came to life under the light of the enlarger. I was focused on photos of the architecture and desert regions of Southern California. My family and adventures in the military brought us to the beautiful Pacific Northwest where my eye for capturing nature had a field day! Mountains, trees, oceans and wildlife... I was in heaven! It wasn't until 2001, when we landed on the East Coast did I begin to photograph people.
I have found the landscape is so diverse and lush in Virginia that every day is a new. Whether I am able to capture my subjects in the golden light of sunrise over the ocean or a snowy day in a fairy-tale forest... I am never at a loss when it comes to a backdrop.
When you meet me you will find someone with a mid-western work ethic who has a genuine laugh out loud attitude and a love of telling your story in a series of photographs. I will always have a genuine smile for you and find a way to make you comfy during those awkward "oh, crap, I'm in front of a camera" moments.
My favorite place to take a selfie is in my car. Mostly, because the light is diffused and hits just right... but, also, because I am an introvert would wouldn't be caught dead doing such a thing in public!
I am a mother of three gorgeous children and an animal lover! If I could achieve my dream of owning a farm I will most likely become an animal rescuer and collector! I don't care if it is a squirrel or an elephant! If it needs to be cared for - it's coming home with me!! Pretty soon my kids will want to move out because all of our grocery money will be spent on animal food! If you find me out in the wild - you will most likely see me with a dog or two, at a local brewery (with a dog) or at spin class or yoga. I am a proud veteran and am happy to serve other veterans and their families in our large military community.
